Intellectual Property Office opened inquiry into strengthening patent competitiveness of Artificial Intelligence innovation companies

On 4 July 2025, the Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) opened an inquiry into enhancing patent competitiveness and global expansion strategies across the Artificial Intelligence (AI) value chain, including hardware, data infrastructure, and applications. It was highlighted that amid a rapidly growing global AI market expected to reach USD 1.4 trillion by 2030, focus should be expanded for research and development and overseas patent support, and faster patent examination processes. KIPO also highlighted improved patent standards, open access to AI training data, and funding for international growth. KIPO noted its committed to supporting intellectual property rights and an open-source ecosystem.
