Description

UK Government released UK's Modern Industrial Strategy including Professional and Business Services Sector Plan

On 23 June 2025, the UK Government released the Modern Industrial Strategy: Professional and Business Services (PBS) Sector Plan. The plan outlines a framework to support growth and innovation within the PBS sector and to position the United Kingdom as a globally trusted provider of professional services with a highly dynamic and productive sector by 2035. Initiatives include the introduction of a technology adoption programme targeting high-growth potential PBS small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the expansion of Innovate UK’s Next Generation Professional and Financial Services programme, and the development of digital and regulatory sandboxes. The strategy also includes the formation of a coalition led by the Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology (CFIT), the designation of a PBS artificial intelligence (AI) Champion, and the allocation of up to GBP 12 million to support UK data sharing infrastructure initiatives. Further measures address cybersecurity support for PBS firms and outline efforts to enhance education, training, and employer engagement to develop a skilled, inclusive, and geographically mobile workforce.
