G7: G7 Data Protection and Privacy Authorities adopted statement on promoting responsible innovation and protecting children by prioritising privacy

On 19 June 2025, the G7 Data Protection and Privacy Authorities (DPAs) adopted a joint statement on promoting responsible innovation and protecting children by prioritising privacy. The statement applies to developers and providers of emerging technologies, including those that process personal data or are accessible to children. It outlines a set of voluntary principles for embedding privacy protections into the design, development, and deployment of digital technologies. These principles include conducting privacy risk assessments, implementing privacy-enhancing technologies, avoiding deceptive design patterns, and ensuring age-appropriate safeguards. The statement also highlights the importance of clear and accessible communication of privacy practices and encourages the use of age assurance measures in a privacy-protective, risk-based, and proportionate manner.
