Singapore: Minister for Digital Development and Information adopted order designating The Online Citizen’s website and social media pages as declared online locations under Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act

Description

Minister for Digital Development and Information adopted order designating The Online Citizen’s website and social media pages as declared online locations under Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act

On 11 June 2025, Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information adopted an order under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act 2019 (POFMA), designating The Online Citizen’s (TOC) website and its Facebook, Instagram, and X pages as “Declared Online Locations” (DOLs). The designation was made due to TOC’s continued dissemination of falsehoods over a two-year period, including on topics such as the death penalty and financial and social assistance for Singaporeans. Under the order, operators of TOC’s platforms are prohibited from receiving financial or material benefits, and the platforms are required to display notices informing users of the designation and history of communicating falsehoods. Digital advertising service providers must take reasonable steps to prevent paid content from being communicated in Singapore via these platforms, and individuals or entities are prohibited from providing financial support. The Declaration will take effect on 22 July 2025 and remain in force until 21 July 2027.
