On 10 June 2025, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security adopted an order changing the age recommendation for the Instagram application to not recommended for children under 16 years of age (Order No. 129/CPCIND/SENAJUS). The classification is based on a routine content analysis that found higher classification trends for themes such as intentional death, mutilation, cruelty, nudity, eroticisation, intense sexual intercourse, complex or high-impact sexual situations, explicit sex, and illicit drug use, which differed from the previously assigned rating. The indicative classification is based on Ministry of Justice and Public Security Ordinance No. 502 of 23 November 2021, particularly article 12, which considers sex and nudity, violence, and drugs as thematic axes. The change in rating is intended to preserve both freedom of expression and the protection of children and adolescents from content inappropriate for their psychological development. The Order is valid for any version of the application.
