On 3 July 2025, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) closes its consultation on the draft Strategic Market Status (SMS) Levy Rules under Section 110 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024. The Act grants the CMA powers to charge a levy to firms designated with SMS. The draft rules outline the proposed methodology for calculating the costs incurred in exercising digital markets functions (qualifying costs) and how to apportion the levy among SMS firms (allocation methodology). The rules also cover the legal basis and invoicing process.
