Indonesia: President signed Regulation Concerning Child Protection Governance in Electronic System Administration including consumer protection authority governance

On 28 March 2025, the President signed the Regulation Concerning Child Protection Governance in Electronic System Administration. According to Chapter III, oversight of compliance with child protection obligations within electronic systems is conducted by the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs. As stipulated in Articles 24 to 37, the governance framework empowers the Minister to monitor, trace, examine, and control electronic system operators (ESOs), both public and private, through mechanisms such as data verification, complaint handling, risk assessment, and enforcement actions. ESOs must submit accurate data and documentation when requested and are subject to administrative sanctions for non-compliance. Sanctions include written warnings, administrative fines, temporary suspension, or access termination, as outlined in Articles 38 to 44. The governance regime also allows coordination with other government institutions and law enforcement to ensure compliance and enforce penalties.
