Description

Draft Resolution 2278-D-2025 on Financial Information Unit reporting obligations related to investigation into crypto asset LIBRA was introduced to Chamber of Deputies

On 12 May 2025, the Draft Resolution 2278-D-2025, requesting the Financial Information Unit (UIF) to report to the Chamber and its Special Investigative Commission on actions taken in relation to the crypto asset Libra, was introduced to the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina. The Resolution sets out four specific requests. First, the UIF is asked to clarify what measures it has taken to verify the legitimacy of operations involving Libra under Law 25.246 and related regulations. Second, it must disclose whether any information was solicited by the Executive Branch or other public bodies concerning Libra’s transactions. Third, the UIF is asked to indicate whether it has detected any operational irregularities related to Libra. Fourth, it must assess whether Resolutions 994/2024 and 1058/2025, issued by the National Securities Commission, comply with the updated provisions of Law 25.246 as amended by Law 27.739. The Resolution affirms the UIF’s authority to exchange confidential information with public entities under Article 14 of Law 25.246, while recognising its obligation to maintain confidentiality under Article 22. The initiative is supported by multiple members of the Chamber of Deputies.
