On 5 May 2025, the Personal Data Protection Bill (S-0644/2025) was introduced to the Argentine Senate. The Bill would establish rules governing access to personal data by public authorities. Access would be permitted only when based on law and subject to principles of necessity, proportionality, and purpose limitation. As a general rule, such access would require prior judicial authorisation. The Bill would also include provisions for transparency, accountability, and oversight, allowing for exceptions to individual notification only in cases where disclosure is legally restricted.
