Adopted Data Office Law (Decree 44/2021)

Through Federal Decree-Law No. 44, the United Arab Emirates adopted the Data Office Law. The Law establishes the Data Office as the enforcer of the Personal Data Protection Law. Therefore, the Office has the power to issue penalties in case of violations of the Law. Moreover, the Office is mandated to propose data protection policies, define the territories where cross-border exchange of data can be pursued and adopt data protection standards and guidelines to support the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Law. Finally, the Office shall adopt the set of executive regulations that will fully implement the Personal Data Protection Law.
