On 3 June 2025, the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) closes its public consultation on the recommended national standard Security Assurance Requirements for Mobile Communication Network Equipment – 5G Core Network Functions (20230127-T-339). The standard defines security requirements for 5G core network function equipment. It outlines specific security functions for components such as the Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF), User Plane Function (UPF), Unified Data Management (UDM), and Session Management Function (SMF). Additional components covered include the Authentication Server Function (AUSF), Security Edge Protection Proxy (SEPP), Network Repository Function (NRF), Network Exposure Function (NEF), Non-3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF), Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF), Service Communication Proxy (SCP), and Network Slice Specific Authentication and Authorization Function (NSSAAF). The Ministry will review the feedback to refine the standard and determine its progression through regulatory procedures.
