Description

European Commission published Single Market Strategy including interoperability requirements

On 21 May 2025, the European Commission published a communication setting out a Single Market Strategy aimed at simplifying regulatory obligations and improving cross-border trade and competitiveness within the EU. The strategy outlines planned measures to promote interoperability across the EU digital ecosystem, including machine-readable formats for standards, the use of the Internal Market Information (IMI) system for regulatory coordination, and the expansion of interoperable e-Invoicing systems. It also proposes embedding interoperability into procurement, standardisation, and data-sharing systems to facilitate seamless interactions between companies and authorities.
