United Kingdom: Office of Communications announced investigations into Kick Online Entertainment over its alleged failure to comply with Online Safety Act

Description

Office of Communications announced investigations into Kick Online Entertainment over its alleged failure to comply with Online Safety Act

On 14 May 2025, the UK's Office of Communications (Ofcom) initiated two investigations into Kick Online Entertainment. The investigations will assess whether the company has failed to comply with its duties under the UK's Online Safety Act. These duties include assessing the risk of users encountering illegal content and responding to statutory information requests. Ofcom initiated an enforcement programme on 3 March 2025 and issued an information request to the provider, which operates the pornography website Motherless, requiring the submission of its illegal content risk assessment record. Having received no response, Ofcom is investigating the alleged failure to complete and record a sufficient illegal content risk assessment and the alleged failure to respond to the statutory information request. In light of complaints regarding potential illegal content on the site, including child sexual abuse material and extreme pornography, Ofcom will also consider the provider's safety measures and may launch a further investigation.
