European Union: Council of the European Union issued conclusions on assessment of the legal framework for audiovisual media services and video-sharing platform services

On 13 May 2025, the Council of the European Union published its priorities for the audiovisual media sector, ahead of the upcoming review of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) in 2026. The Council highlighted the need to clarify the relationship between the AVMSD and broader EU frameworks, including the Digital Services Act and European Media Freedom Act, particularly in cross-border enforcement scenarios. It underlined the importance of ensuring effective regulatory cooperation, including through the European Board for Media Services, to promote consistent application of audiovisual media rules across Member States and address challenges posed by services originating from third countries.
