European Commission opened consultation on draft guidelines to enforce the protection of minors online under Digital Services Act including age verification requirements

On 13 May 2025, the European Commission opened a consultation on guidelines to ensure high levels of privacy, safety, and security for minors online in accordance with Article 28(4) of the Digital Services Act until 10 June 2025. The draft guidelines propose measures for online platforms to implement proportionate age verification mechanisms to prevent minors from accessing content and services that may be inappropriate or unsafe for their age group. The guidelines cover technical and procedural expectations for verifying users' age while minimising the collection of personal data.
