United States of America: Introduced Indiana Bill on consumer privacy with data protection measures (HB 1261)

On 10 January 2022, the Bill on consumer privacy (HB 1261) is introduced in the Indiana House of Representatives. The Bill gives consumers the right of access, deletion and correction of data, and the right to deny certain use of personal data (namely the sharing, sale or processing for certain purposes). Specifically, the Bill outlines the types of personal information that consumers can request from businesses and that businesses must disclose. The enforcement of these rules is provided by the Indiana division of consumer protection. Finally, a series of exceptions to the provisions are listed, such as protected medical information, among others.
