Office of Communications established Online Information Advisory Committee

On 28 April 2025, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) established the Online Information Advisory Committee per the requirement under the United Kingdom's Online Safety Act. The Committee has been established to offer expert advice concerning misinformation and disinformation management. As a governing body within Ofcom, it is chaired by a non-executive member of the Ofcom Board and consists of five members appointed for a three-year term starting on 1 May 2025. The Committee is tasked with delivering objective, evidence-based guidance to inform Ofcom's content moderation processes on various platforms, prioritising child safety from harmful content. Scheduled to have its first meeting on 16 May 2025, the Committee is obligated to produce an inaugural report within 18 months, followed by regular updates to guarantee transparency and operational accountability.
