Description

European Commission closed investigation into Apple concerning its offered choice of services under the Digital Markets Act

On 23 April 2025, the European Commission concluded its investigation into Apple's compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) user choice obligations. The investigation addressed Apple's user interface on iOS, focusing on the ability for users to uninstall apps, alter default settings, and select preferred web browsers. As part of the investigation, Apple has implemented an updated browser choice screen and introduced a centralised menu for changing default settings in several functions, including calling, messaging, and password management. Users can now also uninstall certain pre-installed apps, such as Safari. The Commission will continue monitoring Apple's compliance with the DMA's provisions to safeguard user choice effectively.
