Reintroduction of Online Privacy Act (H.R. 4978)

On 18 November 2021, U.S. Repsresentatives Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., and Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., re-introduced the Online Privacy Act to the House of Congress. A previous version of the bill was introduced on 5 November 2019, which originally planned to introduce user data rights, limit the collection and distribution of user data, and establish a Digital Privacy Agency (DPA) to enforce current and future privacy legislation. In the updated version of the bill, the lawmakers added an Office of Civil Rights within the DPA, allowing other privacy instiutions to assist in enforcing the privacy law.
