Description

European Parliament and Council reached agreement on Regulation on the safety of toys

On 10 April 2025, the European Parliament and the Council reached an agreement on the proposed Regulation on the safety of toys and repealing Directive 2009/48/EC. The Regulation would require all toys to have a Digital Product Passport to prevent unsafe toys from entering the EU market. The passport will be in the format of a data carrier, such as a QR code, and will contain information about the toy's product and compliance details. Importers will need to submit these digital passports at EU borders, and a new IT system will screen them to identify shipments requiring detailed customs controls. The agreement will now be subject to formal approval by the European Parliament and the Council. Once approved, it will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal.
