European Union: European Data Protection Board released report on Artificial Intelligence Privacy Risks and Mitigations in Large Language Models

On 10 April 2025, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) released a report on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Privacy Risks and Mitigations in Large Language Models (LLMs), as part of the Support Pool of Experts Programme. The report provides detailed guidance on identifying, assessing, and mitigating privacy risks associated with LLMs. It covers the evolution of LLMs, their applications, and the importance of understanding data flows throughout the AI lifecycle. The report includes practical examples, such as a virtual assistant for customer queries, an LLM system for monitoring and supporting student progress, and an AI assistant for travel management, to illustrate the application of the risk management framework. It also references tools and methodologies to support developers and users in managing risks and ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the AI Act.
