European Union: European Commission opened public consultation on Digital Product Passport system under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation

On 9 April 2025, the European Commission opened a public consultation on the Digital Product Passport system under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, until 1 July 2025. The consultation applies to service providers responsible for managing and storing product data. The consultation seeks to gather feedback on data handling practices and the potential need for a certification scheme. The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation forms the foundation of the European Union's strategy for promoting environmentally sustainable and circular products. The Digital Product Passport aims to facilitate access to sustainability-related information, including environmental impact, durability, and product conformity, for consumers, businesses, and public authorities.
