Slovakia: Amendments to Media Services Act designating Slovak competent authority and Digital Services Coordinator under the DSA enter into force

Description

Amendments to Media Services Act designating Slovak competent authority and Digital Services Coordinator under the DSA enter into force

On 28 June 2025, amendments to Act No. 264/2022 Coll. on Media Services and on Amendments to Certain Acts (Media Services Act) will enter into force, aligning Slovakia’s national legislation with the Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065). The amendments designate the Council for Media Services (RpMS) as the Digital Services Coordinator (DSC) and expand its mandate beyond audiovisual media to cover intermediary services, online platforms, and internet search engines. As DSC, the Council is empowered to supervise compliance with obligations under the DSA, including transparency requirements, systemic risk mitigation, and user protection measures. The amended Act confers extensive investigative and enforcement powers on the coordinator, including the ability to request information, carry out on-site inspections, and impose administrative sanctions. In instances of non-compliance, penalties may amount to a maximum of 6% of a provider's global annual turnover, as delineated under the provisions of the Digital Services Act.
