On 4 June 2025, the European Commission closes a public consultation to support the development of the Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development Act. The consultation seeks feedback from cloud and edge service providers, AI developers, public authorities, business users, and civil society. The consultation seeks to gather views on the EU’s capacity to manage rising data volumes and demand for compute resources driven by AI. It also seeks input on the public sector’s use of cloud services. The Act sets a regulatory framework for high-performance computing and digital infrastructure to support AI growth, innovation, and technological sovereignty. The feedback will inform three key pillars of the Act, which is a part of the AI Continent initiative, including promoting research and innovation for greener infrastructure, scaling sustainable industrial investments to triple the EU data processing capacity within 5–7 years, and strengthening secure cloud capabilities within the Union.
