Description

Law No. 264/2022 on Media Services including age verification measures was adopted by National Council

On 22 June 2022, the National Council of the Slovak Republic adopted the Law on Media Services (Law No. 264/2022 Coll.), which requires video-sharing platforms to implement age verification measures to restrict access to content that may impair the physical, mental, or moral development of minors. The Law applies to platforms operating in or closely linked to Slovakia and mandates appropriate technical safeguards such as parental controls, age gating, and content labelling. Providers must also ensure that personal data collected for age verification is not used for commercial purposes. The Law will enter into force on 24 July 2024 and is enforced by the Council for Media Services.
