On 1 April 2025, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) concluded its national inquiry into how children's data is handled by service providers in the United Kingdom's financial services sector. The inquiry examined data protection practices, governance measures, transparency, and the safeguarding of individual rights, particularly focusing on children. The review identified prevalent good practices, and potential risks, and recommended improvements for ensuring compliance with established data protection regulations. Examples included the need to revisit privacy information as children age, having specific training for staff on children's data protection, and distinguishing between parents and children in marketing. The ICO plans to use these findings to support ongoing efforts to strengthen children's data protection measures.
