Federal Council signed Council of Europe Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law

On 27 March 2025, the Federal Council of Switzerland signed the Council of Europe Convention on Artificial Intelligence (AI), human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. It was highlighted that Switzerland is committed to international collaboration in setting AI governance standards while ensuring the protection of fundamental rights. The Convention aims to establish rules for transparency and non-discrimination in machine learning and AI development. It was also highlighted that following the signing, authorities, including the Federal Department of Justice and Police, will prepare necessary legislative amendments and devise implementation measures by the end of 2026.
