Republic of Korea: Presidential Decree for the Enactment of the Framework Act on Intelligent Information entered into force

On 27 March 2025, the Presidential Decree for the Enactment of the Framework Act on Intelligent Information entered into force. The Decree provides guidelines for creating, implementing, and overseeing intelligence information policies across government and society. The Decree designates the Ministry of Science and ICT as the central authority, requiring publication of the Comprehensive Plan for Intelligent Information Society in the Official Gazette. Central agencies and local governments must submit implementation plans that align with this comprehensive strategy. An Intelligent Information Officer position is established to coordinate technology projects across agencies. The Decree covers technology standards, research institute designation, data integration, and infrastructure development. It outlines provisions for the National Intelligence Network and data centre development while establishing support mechanisms for private sector participation.
