On 13 March 2025, China’s National Intellectual Property Administration, together with other government bodies, released the Opinions on Further Improving the Business Environment in the Field of Intellectual Property. The initiative aims to strengthen the country’s intellectual property (IP) framework by 2027, with a focus on digital transformation, institutional innovation, and international alignment. It includes measures to enhance IP protection in emerging technologies, such as researching IP frameworks for advanced fields, developing data IP protection rules through pilot programmes, and refining open-source standards, including compliance guidelines and code contribution rules. The National Intellectual Property Administration and the National Copyright Administration will oversee these efforts.
