Ethiopia: Telecommunications Competition Directive No. 798/2021 entered into force

On 9 July 2021, the Ethiopian Communications Authority's Telecommunications Competition Directive No. 798/2021 entered into force. The directive establishes a regulatory framework targeting anti-competitive practices in Ethiopia's telecommunications sector, focusing on infrastructure providers in internet and telecom services. Measures include the prohibition of price fixing, market division, and predatory pricing. Supplementary restrictions apply to operators with more than 40% market share, and mergers and acquisitions require prior administrative approval.
