On 1 January 2022, the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy was adopted to support economic development and improve living standards through digital technologies. The strategy aims to facilitate a transition from traditional agricultural practices to a more diverse economy, including manufacturing, services, and tourism. It includes initiatives to strengthen digital infrastructure, establish a regulatory framework, and promote public-private partnerships. Education and capacity building are highlighted as essential for developing a digitally skilled workforce. The strategy also addresses cybersecurity, the digital divide, and technological change. To mitigate risks, the strategy aims to advance regulations to address user privacy, online fraud, and market competition. Furthermore, the Strategy notes the need for proclamations and standards aligned with international benchmarks and best practices concerning digital competition.
