Law No. 09-04 setting out specific rules for the prevention and fight against crimes related to information and communication technologies including content moderation regulation entered into force

On 16 August 2009, Law No. 09-04 setting out specific rules for the prevention and fight against crimes related to information and communication technologies entered into force. The law compels internet service providers to remove or block access to unlawful content upon discovery, particularly material violating public order or morality (Article 12). Providers must also deploy technical measures to restrict access to prohibited content and notify subscribers of such restrictions. Compliance is enforced under penalty of administrative and criminal sanctions.
