Algeria: Law No. 14-04 on the Audiovisual Activity including content moderation authority governance entered into force

On 23 March 2014, Law No. 14-04 on the Audiovisual Activity entered into force. The law empowers the Audiovisual Regulatory Authority to oversee broadcasting compliance, licensing, and content moderation. Composed of nine independent members appointed by the President and Parliament, it enforces national content quotas (60%), ethical standards, and public order. The authority issues warnings, fines, or licence suspensions for violations and resolves disputes. It submits regular reports to government bodies, ensuring transparency, with judicial review available for appeals.
