European Union: European Commission and Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore issued joint statement on data protection cooperation

On 3 March 2025, the European Commission and Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation on data protection and cross-border data flows. The statement acknowledges ongoing cooperation efforts, including the development of the ASEAN Model Contractual Clauses and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses Guide. The statement highlights deepening collaboration through knowledge-sharing, best practices, and the development of privacy-enhancing technologies, with a particular focus on safeguarding children in the digital environment. It also highlighted the importance of fostering dialogue between regional data protection networks and agreed to work towards greater international cooperation. It was also highlighted that the efforts align with broader bilateral initiatives, including the EU-Singapore Digital Trade Agreement and the EU-Singapore Digital Partnership.
