Malaysia: Social Security Organisation signed Memorandum of Understanding with FoodPanda on social security protections for gig workers

On 13 March 2025, the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Foodpanda Malaysia to provide free protection for over 8,000 delivery riders, sponsoring approximately RM 200,000 towards their coverage. The initiative aims to enhance social security for gig workers in the food delivery sector, aligning with Foodpanda’s broader commitment to balancing flexibility and safety. It was highlighted that the company plans to explore further measures to support its riders’ well-being and financial sustainability.
