Malaysia: Communications and Multimedia Commission announced collaboration with the Ministry of Health to address social media addiction and impact on mental health

On 13 March 2025, the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced a collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to examine the issue of social media addiction and its potential links to mental health. The initiative applies to social media platforms and digital service providers, with a focus on safeguarding minors while promoting responsible use among adults. MCMC highlighted the development of guidelines for platform providers and stated it has implemented public awareness initiatives.
