On 17 March 2025, the Bill amending Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce (Bill No. 2209002) was introduced to the National Assembly. The bill strengthens measures against "dark patterns," which are deceptive online interface designs that trick consumers into making unnecessary purchases, such as sequential price disclosure techniques. The Bill requires periodic inspections of illegal practices, mandates that businesses meeting certain revenue thresholds compensate consumers for damages caused by dark patterns, and requires these businesses to obtain liability insurance. Additionally, the Fair Trade Commission will establish standardised procedures for reporting violations to improve accessibility for consumers. The Bill is scheduled to take effect six months after its adoption.
