Description

Fair Trade Commission approved the acquisition of Ansys by Synopsys

On 13 March 2025, the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) concluded its review of Synopsys's acquisition of Ansys. The review focused on the electronic design automation and engineering simulation software as well as the optical design software sector. It was determined that subject to the implementation of proposed remedies, the transaction would not be substantially restricted. It was highlighted that some industry concerns were raised over potential price increases and reduced innovation, however, the presence of alternative providers and ongoing competition mitigates risks. The review was conducted in coordination with the UK Competition and Markets Authority and the European Commission. As a result, the JFTC has confirmed that it will not issue a cease and desist order, allowing the transaction to proceed.
