Competition Authority of Kenya opened consultation on draft Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2024 including competition authority governance

On 27 May 2024, the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) opened consultation on the draft Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2024, until 14 June 2024. The draft Bill amends Section 9 of the Competition Act to expand the functions of the CAK. The Authority is granted additional responsibilities, including recommending policies to the Cabinet Secretary on competition management and consumer protection, coordinating with relevant government agencies and regulatory authorities, and accrediting consumer bodies.
