On 20 February 2025, the Data Sharing Act of 2025 (Act 864) entered into force. The Act stipulates the sharing of data between public sector agencies, while outlining privacy and security requirements. It establishes the National Data Sharing Committee, responsible for formulating policies and strategies on data sharing, overseeing implementation and dealing with administrative matters. The Act stipulates the duties and powers of the Director General of the National Digital Department, including the implementation of the Committee's policies, the coordination of data sharing, the issuance of guidelines, and the monitoring of compliance. Furthermore, the Act contains enforcement provisions, giving the authorities powers of inspection, investigation and prosecution. Additionally, the Minister is empowered to exempt specific entities from the provisions of the Act and to amend the Schedule, which enumerates the relevant written laws governing data sharing.
