On 5 February 2025, the Bill amending the Official Code of Georgia Annotated to expand restrictions on surveillance and electronic monitoring was introduced at the Senate of Georgia. The Bill expands restrictions on eavesdropping, surveillance, and electronic monitoring. The Bill applies to entities engaged in surveillance, electronic tracking, and the interception of private communications. It prohibits placing a global positioning system or electronic tracking device on a vehicle owned or leased by another person without consent when a protective order is in place and tracking an individual's location without lawful consent. It provides exceptions for parental tracking of minors, manufacturer-installed devices, or vehicle monitoring by owners, lessors, or lienholders. It also reinforces prohibitions on unauthorised surveillance, recording private conversations, or divulging intercepted private communications, with exceptions for law enforcement and security purposes.
