On 15 January 2012, the Organic Law No. 12-05 on information entered into force with a grace period. The law establishes the Written Press Regulatory Authority (also known as the Regulatory Authority of Print Media), which oversees the registration and regulation of print media. Although the authority awaits a presidential decree for its full establishment, entities must comply with the law’s provisions within one year of its creation. The authority ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards, including accuracy, objectivity, and respect for national laws and public order. It also monitors content for breaches such as false information or defamation and is empowered to impose penalties, including fines or suspension of publications, to enforce adherence to the law.
