On 12 March 2025, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published its Mergers Charter, outlining how it engages with businesses and their advisors during merger reviews. The charter sets out four principles, pace, predictability, proportionality, and process, to guide the CMA’s approach to merger assessments. It details how the CMA conducts reviews, provides information on its processes, and sets expectations for businesses to supply timely and accurate information and engage directly where appropriate. The charter is intended to provide clarity on the CMA’s role in merger reviews.
