On 15 January 2012, the Organic Law No. 12-05 on information entered into force. Article 131 mandates that press organizations must align their activities with the provisions of the organic law within a one-year timeframe, starting from the establishment of the Written Press Regulatory Authority. The Law requiring media outlets to ensure that all published or broadcast material adheres to legal and ethical standards. It prohibits the dissemination of false information, defamatory content, and material that incites violence, hatred, or violates public order or national security. Media outlets are mandated to maintain accuracy, objectivity, and respect for individual dignity in their reporting. Additionally, the Law grants individuals the right to request corrections or replies to inaccurate or harmful content. Penalties, including fines and the suspension or revocation of media licences, are specified for violations.
