Netherlands: Order authorising Authority for Consumers and Markets to investigate compliance with Digital Markets Act (DMA) enters into force

Description

Order authorising Authority for Consumers and Markets to investigate compliance with Digital Markets Act (DMA) enters into force

On 10 March 2025, the order authorising the Authority for Consumers and Markets to investigate compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) entered into force. The order empowers ACM to investigate potential non-compliance by designated gatekeepers. The DMA seeks to promote competition in the digital sector by requiring companies designated as gatekeepers to ensure interoperability and fair data access for app developers and other digital businesses. This development aligns ACM’s role with the European Commission's broader framework for supervising digital markets. The designated gatekeepers include Apple (App Store and other services), Booking (Booking.com), Google (Google Search, YouTube, and more), Meta (Facebook, WhatsApp, and other services), and Microsoft (Windows PC OS and additional platforms).
