Egypt: Authority for the Protection of Competition and the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices released guidelines on the Total Exemption Policy contained in Article 26 of the Competition Protection Law

On 13 November 2023, the Authority for the Protection of Competition and the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices released guidelines on the Total Exemption Policy contained in Article 26 of the Competition Protection Law. The guidelines outline the conditions under which entities may qualify for total exemption from penalties in cases of anti-competitive practices. They specify the procedural requirements for exemption applications, the criteria for assessing eligibility, and the obligations of applicants, including full cooperation with the Authority. The guidelines also clarifies the scope of exemptions, the role of whistleblowers, and the mechanisms for ensuring compliance with competition regulations.
