Law on the Protection of Competition and the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices (promulgated by Law No. 3 of 2005) establishing the Authority for the Protection of Competition and the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices entered into force

On 16 May 2005, the Law on the Protection of Competition and the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices (promulgated by Law No. 3 of 2005) entered into force. The law establishes competition authority governance in Articles 11-15, creating the Authority for the Protection of Competition and the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices (known as the Egyptian Competition Authority, or ECA). The ECA is granted powers to investigate anti-competitive practices, receive notifications, and enforce compliance with the law.
