Egypt: Executive Regulation for Law No. 180 of 2018 on Press, Media, and the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (Prime Minister's Decree No. 418 of 2020) including content moderation authority governance entered into force

On 17 February 2020, the Executive Regulations for Law No. 180 of 2018 on Press, Media, and the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) (Prime Minister's Decree No. 418 of 2020) entered into force. The regulation establishes the SCMR as the primary regulatory body overseeing media operations in Egypt. The SCMR is responsible for issuing licences for media outlets, setting guidelines for their establishment and operation, and ensuring compliance with national regulations. Media outlets are required to notify the SCMR of any changes in their operations, including ownership, management, or content, and must adhere to specific procedural and administrative requirements outlined in the regulation.
