On 13 July 2020, the President signed Law No. 151 of 2020, Promulgating the Personal Data Protection Law. The law will come into force on 17 October 2020. The law established the Personal Data Protection Centre (PDPC) as the national authority overseeing data protection. The PDPC is responsible for developing policies, standards, and guidelines to protect personal data. Its governance includes a board of directors with representatives from ministries and agencies. The PDPC issues licences, conducts inspections, and enforces compliance through legal actions, including fines and penalties for violations.
