European Union: European Commission approved acquisition of Infinera by Nokia (Case No. M.11663)

On 26 February 2025, the European Commission approved Nokia's acquisition of Infinera Corporation, concluding that the transaction raises no competition concerns in the European Economic Area. The acquisition relates to the optical transport equipment sector, where both companies supply networking solutions used to transmit data through optical fibre cables. The Commission’s investigation found that Nokia and Infinera’s combined market share remains moderate and that sufficient competition will persist in the market. Under the European Union's merger control rules, the Commission reviewed the transaction within the standard 25-working-day Phase I process and determined no further investigation was necessary.
